Liz asked me to take some pictures at Blast Off in Nottingham.....i only went to Friday night but the whole thing lasted 3 days and was an amazing feat of organisation on her part, it's a scary prospect putting on 2 nights at the Marcus Garvey which is a huge room...the thing is they pulled it off and what i saw on Friday night was fantastic. Here's some of what i saw and thanks Liz for getting me to come. Armitage Shanks played Shirts Off and it was already worth the drive up from Swansea!

Alan was back from New Zealand for a holiday so it was a good excuse for a big old road trip to South Wales. Ally put the whole thing together at the Welsh end; all the spots, place to stay, new clothes for everyone, cheap surfboard deals....the Barr hospitality is legendary. I live in Swansea right now so i hooked up with Ally on Porthcawl seafront early and headed out in the Independent van to meet everyone at the Chepstow bowls...everyone was already skating when we got there, carving the bowls and getting as many in the bowl at one time as possible.....Kettering skaters seem to do this at every opportunity....i'm thinking of Romford last year when at least 30 tried to break some kind of coffin record down the big slalom hill into the bottom resevoir...maybe it was a record, i don't know and Kettering neither know nor care, it's just what they do. I think it comes from the long days and big bowls at Wicksteed park. Anyway it continues and i'm sure it always will.....

You gotta love the team shot......June 2009, Chepstow.

Team shot number 2.....Stevenage round about 1988, from the archive of Jess...3 of these fine looking fellas made it to the Chepstow pic...21 years later!!!

My charity bike ride......
Doing the London to Brighton a week on Sunday with Rob, any sponsorship will be gratefully received by the British heart Foundation, link below.....
As far as me goes it will be the longest i will have riden since i broke my leg just over a year ago....Clapham Common to Brighton seafront with over 40,000 others, might be a bit slow going but a few pics and clips should follow....
sponsor me here

Training rides have mainly consisted of taking ione out for afternoon rides to the park, she generally falls asleep on the back sometime on the way back.

The painted dial seems like an ongoing project, here is the painting process so far for the most recent model....it's a replacement for the thinner version i did last year that got damaged and buckled in the hot south london sun a couple of weeks ago. It's for a 1km 4 up dial so it will have four hands instead of the regular 2. Four hands means Four bikes racing. A roller racing Madison.....

The rollapaluza winter series keeps on going...last Wednesday at the Horseshoe. I spent the first half of the night trying a crude video shoot with 2 cameras, here is a rough cut of Gertie's race in the qualifying rounds. Using imovie...final cut version with sound levels sorted and maybe in colour too....black and white seemed the easiest way to get around the cameras being different and having differing ideas of white balance and colour .....

Here's some reasons to go to Central and South America.......another one is the blog miles you can wring from it for years to come, i went in 2005 for a year and i saw so much that i'm still going on about it in 2009. Saw that Dan Cates went there recently and it gave me itchy feet to get back there sometime....in the meantime here's a load of links to South America stuff including Cate's blog and my clips and pictures.......
Cates in Ecuador video
Cate's Costa Rica blog
Cate's Latin America trip looks a bit like the one i did in 2005....the spots are all still there, not surprising though due to the abundance of concrete. Quito park is huge and the Tilawa hotel is just packed with lines. These spots are actually hundreds of miles apart but looking back it all seemed so close. I guess he will be heading to Lima sometime soon and there are some cool Cate's type spots there so looking forward to seeing what he makes of it all....
Here's a clip from Tilawa when i went there

Camped in the bowl at Tilawa

Hot all day and night by the lake

Fullpipe in Quito is massive.

Mancora is on the border between Ecuador and Peru, this is on a hill looking over the town.

Blending in with the locals in Peru.

Have a look at the bottom picture on this link to Hong Kong Fixed.....
A roller face off set up at a track in Hong Kong i presume... permament rollers where you can simply ride up any time and do some spinning. The way things are going these things will be set up at some of the new skateparks as the scenes crossover, spin, carve, grind, sprint, skid......

My photographs are in the art show downstairs at the Foundry this weekend. The show is a group show which is part of London's Calling
Here is a quick review/preview from Bill.
Each of the four images represents a courier killed while working in London.
Working as a courier you come to expect the unexpected each day, you expect a near miss, some lost skin, a stolen bike or to be wet and cold all day. No one expects to lose their life. These images are dedicated to the eight London couriers who have died at work over the years.
The locations and even the dates of these tragic deaths have become blurred. I wanted these photographs to remind us of the real dangers and unexpected turns in the road and also to remember the eight riders who died doing their job.

Mark Francis - London, d. June.1999, died in hospital from injuries sustained June 8, 1999, East Smithfield, by unknown lorry.

Sebastian Lukomski - London, d. 23.Feb.2004, killed at junction of Lower Thames Street and Queen Street Place, by a left turning tipper truck.

Joe Cooper - London, d. 1989, killed on the job at Pentonville Road, by an unknown HGV

Calvin Simpson - London, d. 1991, killed on the job at Stamford Street by an unknown HGV.
